Aging With A Developmental Disability

Aging with a developmental disability - Province wide workshop seriesReena and the Alzheimer Society of York Region have created a workshop on Aging with a Developmental Disability. This workshop has had great success in our region and we have been awarded a government grant which will allow us to bring this workshop to your area.
The workshop is a one-day training program designed for direct support professionals (front line staff) from both Developmental Services and Health/Seniors/Long-term Care Sectors. Cross sector collaboration is vital to help meet the complex needs related to Aging with a Developmental Disability.

The training includes the following areas:

  • Aging with a Developmental Disability in comparison to the general population
  • The Aging Process
  • Aging & Health related changes
  • Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • The link between Down Syndrome and Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Resources
  • Future Planning

Who should attend?
All Direct Support Professionals (front line staff) from both Developmental Services and Health/Seniors/Long-term Care (Direct Support Professionals; PSW’s; Alzheimer Society Staff; BSOs-Behavioural Supports Ontario; LHIN Home and Community Care; Community Health Links; Community Support Agencies; Developmental Service Providers; DSO; Geriatric Outreach Teams; Hospitals; PRCs (Psychogeriatric Resource Consultants; Senior Adult Day Programs; Long Term Care Homes-DOCs, Director of Nursing, Social Workers; Networks of Specialized Care)

Time:  All workshops will run from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm
Cost: $45.00 (includes all materials, resources, lunch, and a Certificate of Completion)

Space is limited to 60 participants: 30 Spaces for Developmental Services and 30 Spaces for Health / Seniors / Long term care
