Volunteer Opportunities

Reena volunteers play a vibrant role towards ensuring that people with differing abilities become as self sufficient as possible, lead a fulfilling life, and have the opportunity to live up to their potential.

There are a variety of ways in which volunteers can be helpful, including direct service, administrative work and special events. Direct service volunteers work with the clients, either one-on-one or in a group setting, assisting the staff on outings and a number of program areas, while administrative volunteers share their computer and office skills with one of our many departments. Special event volunteers help to organize and run fundraising events to benefit REENA.
Volunteer programs include:
PAL-Unteer:
Build a rewarding friendship with an indivdual who has a developmental disability through social and recreational activities.

Home-Buddy:
Visit and interact with Reena clients in a group home setting - play games, read stories or participate in group outings.

Administrative Volunteer:
Share your office and computer skills by working at the Reena office during regular business hours.

Family Friend:
Invite a client to share the holidays and participate in special dinners/festivities with your family.
Special Events:
Assist in our Funding Development Department to organize and execute special fundraising events. Please follow this link for details.

Day/Evening Program Volunteer:
Assist with the many program activities such as art, music, sports and computer training at the Reena Centre and other venues, including after school and Sunday programs.

A Time to Care Program:
A friendly visiting program in hospital or other care facilities for people with developmental disabilities who would welcome a warm touch and friendly smile.

Helping Hands:
Assist residents in a group home setting by running errands, grocery shopping and helping with other small chores.
Commitment:
A commitment of 6 months is required with the exception of the Summer, Winter Retreat and March Break Programmes. Because consistency in the lives of our clients is very important, a set time/day for the client and volunteer to spend time together is neccessary. Regular and active participation will help to develop a successful and meaningful relationship.
Reena Volunteers should possess:
  • Maturity
  • Dependability
  • Responsibility
  • Understanding/Empathy

Since 1973, Reena has been developing and providing community services for people who have a developmental disability. During that time, the agency has gained a well-deserved reputation for service innovation.

What makes Reena truly unique is the emphasis on providing Judaic programming and a Jewish environment for its clients, enabling them to develop spiritually and feel a connection and sense of belonging to their roots, culture and community.

Reena also encourages the expression of everyone's culture and religious roots, regardless of background or denomination.
