Session description

  • On the journey to an inclusive society, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are present in all aspects of our communities. Let’s discuss support agencies roles and how they can best transform to person-centred thinking and practices.
  • This session will be facilitated by Jim Turner, Executive Director of Community Living Atikokan, and a few colleagues. They will discuss what can be for individuals/families, what is possible. Jim will be discussing not only the stories from his agency but his own family as he has a younger brother who has a developmental disability. Jim grew up watching his parents advocate so that his brother could have the fullest life possible and will share how his brother has succeeded because the family supported him to achieve the things he wanted in life.
  • Following Jim’s brief presentation, families and caregivers will have a chance to discuss and interact with regional and ministry staff as well as staff from regional support agencies on key aspects of person-centred thinking and practices.
